Kontron presents the new 3.5″ SBC-AML/ADN for compact IoT edge devices

Our technology partner Kontron, a leading global provider of embedded IoT solutions, presents the 3.5″ SBC-AML/ADN. These latest members of the 3.5″ single board computer series are specifically designed for the development of compact IoT edge devices and are characterised by increased processor and graphics capacities, accelerated AI inference and efficient power consumption with low latency. These SBCs are perfect for real-time computing in industries such as industrial automation, smart cities, retail and healthcare.

Hardware specifications of the 3.5" SBC-ADN and 3.5" SBC-AML

Compared to the previous generation, the Intel® processors used offer almost a doubling of graphics performance with up to 32 GPU execution units. They support next-generation DDR5 memory with a data transfer rate of up to 4,800 MT/s. These SBCs have two USB 3.2 Gen2, one USB 2.0 and one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type C port as well as triple display support and numerous integrated controller functions. Both the 3.5″ SBC-ADN and the 3.5″ SBC-AML are equipped with up to two Display Port connectors on the I/O port side and a USB-C port that supports up to 4K UHD resolution at 60 frames per second with Intel® UHD Graphics Gen12. Optionally, another LVDS port on the board can be used for a direct display connection.

Features of the 3.5" SBC-ADN and 3.5" SBC-AML

Thanks to the enhanced GPU performance, accelerated AI and image processing tasks can be realised. Some models of the 3.5″ SBC-ADN and 3.5″ SBC-AML single board computers support Intel® Time Coordinated Computing (TCC) and Time Sensitive Networking (TSN). These SBCs are ideal for IoT edge devices that require high security, low power consumption and low latency. In addition, edge devices benefit from the available serial and digital I/O interfaces as well as the wide range voltage input from 9 to 36V DC. These SBCs support all available processor variants (several standard, otherwise project-based customised variants) and use state-of-the-art technology components. The 3.5″ SBC-AML is also designed for continuous operation (24/7) under harsh operating conditions and high system loads.

Application scenarios for the 3.5" SBC ADN and 3.5" SBC AML

Both SBCs are available in two operating temperature variants: Commercial (0 °C ~ 60 °C) and Industrial (-40 °C ~ 85 °C) to cover the different environmental conditions of the various application scenarios. They offer extended long-term availability of up to 10 years from the launch date and fulfil high certification standards. The extensive portfolio of 3.5″ SBCs is complemented by a range of I/O and function expansion boards, known as 3.5″ eIO. These expansion boards offer additional I/O connections, such as additional display (DP & HDMI) and LAN connections. The 3.5″ eIOs can be used for both commercial and industrial temperature ranges and are compatible with the 3.5″ SBC-ADN and 3.5″ SBC-AML as well as the 3.5″ SBC-EKL and 3.5″ SBC-TGL of the previous generation.
